Vitamin C for Skin Health

It’s no news to us that Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and has many benefits for our immune system and healing but what part does it play in protecting our skin from the effects of the sun and ageing?

What Does Vitamin C Do for The Skin?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is found in connective tissues, such as skin, tendons, ligaments, cartlidge, bones, teeth, heart valves, and the cornea. Collagen requires Vitamin C and iron to form healthy protein fibers, if Vitamin C is lacking then collagen forms abnormal fibers resulting in fragile skin, blood vessels, and skin lesions. The skin becomes dull, and dry, and sun or UV damage will be evident as well as the unwanted early signs of ageing.

The majority of collagen in the body is Type I, Type III, and Type V.  Collagen is tough and does not stretch easily. It provides strength to the skin and most importantly holds the skin together.

Vitamin C has been dermatologically proven to help prevent and improve wrinkles.

5 Tips for Using Vitamin C in Your Skin Routine

Use your Vitamin C product correctly by knowing how to incorporate it into your routine. We share 5 tips that you can follow below:

Go For It

Take a healthy dose of Vitamin C. Start incorporating your antioxidant into your morning skin regimen.

Germaine de Capuccini’s Radiance C+ line, with its pure vitamin C formulation, will show visible results within a few weeks of use.

Use Your Vitamin C in The Morning

We say morning for quite obvious reasons. You’re preparing to take on the day, along with its pollutants including UV rays. And everything that your skin will need protection from. Aside from that, it will give your skin breathing space for your heavier acids and exfoliants when it’s time for your night skincare routine. If you prefer using a Vitamin C concentrate or serum, it should come first in your routine right after cleansing and toning.

Perfect Partners

Vitamin C has proven benefits for protecting cells against sun damage which is great news but you still need sun protection. Don’s skimp on your SPF.  We use and recommend a CC cream for everyday use.

Paired with another topical ingredient such as Ferulic Acid, a good antioxidant can reduce redness and will protect your skin from long-term sun damage.

Layer Correctly

The secret is in layering it with other products in your routine depending on what you’re using. As a general rule apply from lightest to heaviest.  Serums after cleansing and toning your face, moisturise with cream or emulsion then finish with an SPF.

Know Your Skin

Active ingredients and antioxidants are the bomb but what’s right for you? It can be a little tricky working out what your skin needs from season to season. So chat to your Skin Expert to decide when a C is right for you.
