Skin Needling: Aftercare, Tips, Dos & Don’ts

Before lockdowns happened, modern, non-invasive treatments such as skin needling were already building popularity. Today, the new normal has been synonymous to the changes in the average person’s shopping behavior. And for personal and beauty products and services, it meant a surge in what was already seen as a lucrative market. Safe to say that the beauty and personal. and skin care industry is now front and center of our consumerism and with the Australian active lifestyle, it’s not hard to see why.

What Is Skin Needling?

A practice that started in the late 90s, skin needling has been the focus of skin aesthetics technologies conversation, especially in Australia. However, before deciding whether or not it is for you, take the time to check microneedling things to consider, including safety precautions, trusted clinics, dermatologists as well as underlying skin conditions.

Why Should You Consider It?

Women gush about skin needling, visiting skin needling laser clinics in recent years and with good reason. We’re popular for being very outdoorsy with active, busy lifestyles. But let’s not forget that we of course, age, so we find ways to age nicely and have better but more convenient protection to the exposure we have subjected our skins to.

But, what does skin needling do? What makes it the talk of beauty town and how does it fare against other treatments? Read on to find out.

It’s a Miracle Cure

This is not a drill. Although skin needling results can vary, many women have spoken so much about it. They see a great difference in just a matter of days; acne scars gone, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and an overall improvement of the skin’s texture, pushing some years back and making you look your very fine, youthful, rejuvenated self.

It’s Very Convenient

Get the treatment at the comfort of your home or have an in-office skin needling Brisbane treatment. The former is especially a great option if you’re busy or are not up for an in-office visit. Having it in-office comes with the scheduling drawbacks but it does give you more guarantee on getting PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).

It Doesn’t Require Downtime

Even if downtime is necessary, it will be very minimal because you’ll only worry about a little numbing sensation after treatment. You see, the more aggressive the treatment is, the more downtime and rest you need.

A Quick Guide to Skin Needling Aftercare

Even though skin needling procedures are widely popular, skin needling aftercare isn’t. Your doctor should provide you a list of skin needling before and after must-dos including food and activities to avoid as well as tips for better results. In case you missed out on this information, have a look at the aftercare list we prepared below:

1. Hands Off  Your Face

After the treatment, your skin will be vulnerable especially because the puncture wounds are still open, which is why you’ll experience redness for a day or two. Resist the temptation to touch your skin to avoid contamination and possible infection. You may also see some flaking and swelling in the treated areas but these are normal since the dead skin cells are expected to be punctuating upwards. You can moisturise and use a gentle product such as the ones from the Germaine De Capuccini Hydracure line.

2. Ditch Makeup For at Least a Day

You’ll survive a day without makeup but your face might not be able to deal with the effects of a used brush and your other cosmetics. Remember that the face on your skin have to be fresh and clean so every inch should be left untouched for 24-48 hours because your skin barrier needs to heal. Using makeup tools may also contaminate an open skin and cause bacterial infection.

3. Stay Out of  The Sun

This isn’t the time to be sunbathing or taking walks by the shore. Get all the shade that you can. Better yet, ignore all the beach invitations and be extra careful of sun exposure. Even if you’re already weeks into post-treatment, your skin it’s still likely that your skin will be sensitive from the sun. While we don’t encourage applying sunscreen, you may want to have some spf into your makeup. Some face products like CC Creams come with spf which will protect you days after your treatment when your skin has healed a little, to help reduce redness and skin inflammation.

4. Rest

No brainer, eh? While we’re not asking you to lie down all day, you actually have to limit your physical activity for a day and avoid straining your body. This may not be surgery but skin needling aftercare demands that you take it easy and just allow yourself to “heal,” face, body, and all. Don’t carry anything heavy and absolutely avoid physical exhaustion.

5. Tone Down on Today’s Skincare

If you experience redness, swelling, and if you feel like your face hurts after the session, it may not be wise to apply creams, serums, and the your skin care products especially with “active ingredients.” Skip retinol, alpha hydroxyl acids and Vitamin C for now but incorporate them back in your routine a few days after the treatment for enhanced results. You can also look into the best homecare for microdermabrasion to make sure that you’re following through on the right aftercare.

6. Use a Gentle Cleanser

Instead of products with active ingredients, you can use mild, gentle cleansers or and barrier creams. Our Excel Therapy Soft Scrub is great for this as its super gentle and exfoliates and hydrates the skin well with shea butter for a soothing and softening effect.

You can repeat this aftercare tips as needed but it’s best to keep to a good skin care routine even when the results are already visible and your skin has completely healed. It may also take up to a number of sessions more to see significant changes but that depends on what your skin needs, among others. Either way, you know you will always have options plus the best skin care products you can count on before and after such treatments.
